The war of HD DVD is more – Blue-ray wins
The war of HD DVD is over. The opponent has thrown in the towel and the raised arm is victorious.
Toshiba's announcement that its HD DVD format was to be abandoned has confirmed expectations that solution more expensive Sony Blue ray prevail.
The two rival systems have been struggling for two years, begin to compete head to head. The wane when Warner Brothers backed Blu-ray and said it would issue only movies in that format in the future.
One by one the content providers and retailers have added your vote for the Sony option.
The final nail in the HD DVD coffin appears to have been the decision by Wal-Mart to remove its stores, announced earlier this month.
One reason for Sony hey get the edge has been the development of Blu-Ray in its own Playstation 3, which means that many more units were installed and working than their rivals.
As Museums Ushered formats do not, the line along the side of that most famous exhibit, Betamax, who have harvested their own HD DVD player left in the lurch.
The million people who bought one in good faith will have good reason to be upset. Although prices dropped from an initial nearly £ 500 to £ 150, including that's a lot of money to be tied into a DVD player for that very few are now on the shelves.
The key question concerns the plans for HD DVD today sitting in warehouses and on retail shelves. Will they be canceled, or will be as advertised bargains as sold to unsuspecting buyers? It should be first, because last week became obsolete – February 25, 2008.
